Front Koni Insert install # 86 1942 - gland nut does not tighten all the way down?

Hello,

Doing the install of front Koni inserts in a 1976. Old inserts came out fine (what a mess). New insert goes in, but when tightening the gland nut, it does not seem to tighten down all the way (to the bottom). See pics. Or is this a normal height after tightening? There is a little more tightening to go, but not much. Is the new insert to long? Without the insert in, the gland nut threaded all the way down in the lower housing.

Did empty out all the oil and fish around the bottom of the lower housing with a magnet and hooked wire, nothing.

I did see a mention in another post (old) that the gland nut needs to be tight, but may be a little above the lower housing when it is.

Part number 86 1942

Thanks

I've not done any 911 struts, but that is totally normal on other insert types. If the gland nut bottoms out, it won't hold the insert tight.

True, the nut will not completely bottom out. Just make sure it is TIGHT.

Thanks for the responses, just the info I needed.
