DIY transmission rebuild
As I have some time this winter, I was kicking around the idea of rebuilding my transmission. First and second gear synchros are pretty worn - the gears seem to be in good shape (don't pop out of gear). Is it crazy to attempt to do it myself? What sort of special tools do I need? Anyone know of a good book for rebuilding a 915 transmission?

A few people on this board have DIY'd the 915. The most memorable and informative was the thread by Jim Sims recounting the tranny rebuild he did with his son. Here are some threads about it:
