Repairing of Collapsed roof
Hi,
I am looking to repair my roof of my 964 C2. Car rolled and the A pillars are gone. Friend who drove it , is lucky to be alive . Can I just buy the roof ? I am trying to source for a 993 /964 body but it's pretty hard to find one . So I am open to suggestions ! |

Might better add your location. Someone has one in their backyard, or in a scrap yard you can probably cut up. Good luck. Sounds like a major undertaking.

Sure the rest of the car is straight? Rollovers I've seen usually the rest of the chassis is trashed.
Might be worth buying another, moving the best parts, and selling the leftover parts. |

Yes, chasis is intact, freak accident .
Yes, I guess buying another body without the engine and gearbox is the best way to move forward |

Race cars shops do sunroof deletes all the time. Top comes off. New one installed. Its just a matter of how bad the pillars and the rear glass frame are.

This is a statement of the obvious, BUT, whoever attempts the repair needs to understand the structure he's working with. Good shops make this look easy because....they are good shops and have the knowledge and equipment. The pillars have layers of steel which need to all be joined properly, which usually involves staggering the joins/welds. Plus, the window openings need to be correct in all dimensions....and not many of us have those nice factory jigs to get the job done right. Great pictures on DDK.com Restoration Threads, search for Barry Carter, a modest yet hugely talented 911 Shell Whisperer/sheet metal guru, will help anyone contemplating this kind of work.
Point being, it's not just cut the pillars, weld on replacement roof clip and Bob's Your Uncle, all set. Best of luck, John in CT |
