Destroyed my 3.2, now what?

Long story short, my 3.2 is toast. Very loud ticking noise and some shavings on the magnetic drain plug?

Rebuild or look into 3.6 swap?

On another note? What would be a fair asking price for the 3.2 without tearing into it?

My best guess is a good 3.2 motor with docs would be 5-7k. I could be wrong.

Why do you think she is toast?

What did you do to her?

Some shavings is quite normal and ticking? if you mean tappet noise, that is also normal.

Does it turn over when starting or is it frozen?

Oil pressure was very low after it started knocking. As in almost none.

Two or five rod spun..keep running it and the rod comes through the case then it's totaled.

My guess is you've spun a bearing, the ticking will go away soon.......

In fact there will be no noise at all once it's seized!!

I'm guessing this isn't going to end up cheap!

Even worth trying to rebuild cost wise or good time for a 3.6 swap?

I'm guessing a full tear down and rebuild, depending on how much machine shop work you need - including heads and regrinding crank, will be in the region of 12-15k.

I'm sure others will chirp in quickly if I'm way off base.

The thing is you'd then have a known rebuilt engine, the downside with a replacement is that it's always slightly unknown.

Although the idea of a 3.6 swap is fantastic. I've been build a fantasy car with a 3.6 swap for some years now.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Just watched the video, which I should have watched before posting!!!

Sounds way noisier than a spun bearing!

A rebuild isn't cheap, but at least you know what you have when you're done. Even the 3.6s are old engines these days (the newest ones being about 15 years old).

Regardless, the engine has to come out either way, so it may not hurt to tear it down to see what's going on and what the repair will cost.

How many miles are on the engine now?

Sounds like a rod for sure. 3,2s are known to have problems with the rod bolts. I wouldn't even start it again.

It won't be started again. I'll be dropping the motor in the next few days and try to come up with a plan of attack.

Time is not really on my side right now. I'm in the Air Force and am moving next month. I need to ship the car and would like to have it running before then so I don't have to try and find someone to move it not running and pay the extra $$. Plus I'd like to enjoy it some this summer.

The money to convert a 3.6 into a 3.2 might be more than rebuilding your 3.2

I would probably go with two new oil coolers and flush the lines really really well too.

Machining and rebuilding next month would take a lot of planning and luck. Took me 2 months to rebuild my 3.2 working 2-4 hours a night and the occasional longer stretches on the weekends.
