Strange sound 911 3.2 carrera.

Hey everybody!
Tonight I started my car up to drive it in to my garage and the sound that met me wasn't the one i heard earlier on the day....
Most noticeable at 12-1500rpm.
Is it the chain?
A valve?

I'm not sure what a stuck on starter motor sounds like in these cars but you may want to give it a couple of whacks to see if it will free it up. Cheers

How's the oil pressure? I didn't like the shut down noise either.

I KNOW THAT SOUND!!!! Check out one of my earlier post...

Park on Hill Knocking

In short, you parked on a hill, nose pointing up. This put backwards pressure on the motor causing the cam chains to loosen. I have done this and it scared the crap out of me. I hunted and hunted until someone here on the board explained it. Here is what that awesome pelican person, WideRide 86, responded with.
Happened to me a year ago, and scared the bejebus out of me. Even though the e-brake "holds" the car, it puts back tension on the cam chains. This reverse tension pushes the cam tensioner in farther than normal. So the chain runs loose on start up. Be sure not to rev it much until it pumps back up. And stick it in reverse if you are parking up hill so the motor wants to spin in its normal forward direction.
In short, that sound is OK... just don't park that way.

Oh my, thank you so much. That's exactly what happened. I'd already started to plan for a complete teardown of the engine.... That was the last time I parked upphill with nose up. Now I can spend the money on a paint job instead. Thank you so much!
