Cams vs. emissions

If I knew more about the art and science of cams, I could probably work this out myself. What I need to know is if a mild cam upgrade for (CIS) SC motors will affect a smog test.

The cam I'm considering is the WebCam 20/21 grind, which some of you have already installed. Looking at the specs (lobe center, overlap etc.), tells me it's a pretty mild stick, but I'm looking for comment from those of you who actually have them in your engine.....and have taken a smog test or had a gas test done.

It's just too much work to re & re cams for the annual smog test I have to face here in the Rainforest, so I won't be doing this mod if it will cause a test failure. Your thoughtful input is greatly appreciated.

Doug, couple of things: First, my e-mail is not reliable right now and I'm wondering when this engine drop will occur. October 5? 12? I do have a strategy to share regarding how to place the floor jack against the motor's bottom while distributing the engine's weight more broadly. A small piece of plywood and a 1x4 down the center of the case will distribute the weight between various spots on the case, and even some on the heat exchangers.

Also, I have not smogged my engine, but would be happy to offer it up for some experiments. JW will probably know whether the 20/21 cams can pass smog, and if I need to stop there to experiment, then....it's always a pleasure to visit John's shop.

Jim,
The Blue Bomber Engine Drop will be held on Saturday, October 12.
I will be sending out official invitations (and directions to the garage) next week, but you are already on the list.
