HP Junkies Final Prep For 2nd Round Of Dyno Run

For all of you that have followed the project this week we

1)Adjusted the Valves
2)Chanded the Oil & Filter
3)Retorque the Heads
4)Inspected the Cams

So in preparation for the 2nd Round of Dyno Runs

1)We installed a set of Custom Made Headers,The Turbo is no longer on the side.

2)Installed a Bigger Wastegate

3)Installed the MSD 6A

4)Installed the MSD Blaster Coil-3

5)Made a New Custom Muffler 3''In & Out

We will be using a different Dyno (much cooler than the 1st one)
Maybe by the end of the week we will make it happen, this time we will make a few more runs, will keep you guys posted.
Until then.......SmileWavy

Great to hear all is coming along. Do the new headers place the turbo like a 930? If so, what are you doing for oil drain??

Mike
86 Carrera (soon tt)

kanihitit 09-23-2002 03:12 PM

Anxiously awaiting the next update..

WydRyd 09-23-2002 03:46 PM

Great news Juan.

As Mike said, what are you doing for oil drain? Are you using some sort of scavange pump?

Were there any problems fitting the larger A/R Turbo on the side initially, OR did you have to do more frame clearing? Just curious cause when I go to a T60-1, I want to retain an on-the-side configuration.

I'm sure you'll keep us posted on the dyno results. What boost will you be testing at? 1.0-1.25 bar?

I'm sure you'll be seeing between 450-470 RWHP

juan ruiz 09-23-2002 04:07 PM

Thank You Guys,
Mike the oil is drain same way as before we installed a fitting on the front cover,Remenber those Pictures of those Turbo Kits that I have, theirs a Picture of the cover there, yes the turbo is in the rear location a la 930,we just repair the valve cover so the hole is no longer there.

kanihitit,Whre in South Florida are you?

Merv
No scavange pump, Im afraid if you want to go to the next level you will have to move her back period !theres NO ROOM for the
T-60 Even worst if you are to install headers you will have to go back no way out,at this time I have redone the WHOLE Enchilada all over, this ON the Side is good ,but if you are to up date the whole thing goes out the window,we had to do all new pipes, location of air cleaner, drain lines, muffler, oil lines etc etc
We will run her at 1.25 and few runs at 1.4 and one more at 1.45 with 103 Racing Fuel

Until ThenSmileWavy

WydRyd 09-23-2002 04:33 PM

So, you are still using gravity drain for your oil return from the turbo, right? I guess the custom headers mounts the turbo high enough for it to work properly?

At 1.4bar, I'm sure you'll see North of ~600HP man!!! Anxiously awaiting the dyno results

RarlyL8 09-23-2002 07:21 PM

Jeez Juan, why don't you just twin tubo the monster while you're changing everything around. I know Mike would gladly help!

Good luck on the next dyno run.

WydRyd 09-23-2002 08:54 PM

RarlyL8's got a point there Juan. If you had to RE-DO all your plumbing and have a custom exhaust header system fabricated, you would have been better off going twin turbo, like Mike.

Oh well, I'm sure you'll still be looking at mid->high 500's with your setup anyway.

juan ruiz 09-24-2002 03:15 AM

Guys Great Idea:rolleyes: ,or I could install a 3.4 Twin Turbo:( or a 3.6 Triple Turbo:( no for real if I had the $$ Sure but my money tree is Deadhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/shake.gif now think of this I can get a lot of HP with a single turbo so lets said I wish to go twin so I need two new turbos, another wastegate,Plumming, twin plug the heads and here go go againhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif
another 6 grand Boom! AHHHHHHHHH don't forget the Tunning oh yes the tunning,Thanks for the Idea but no Thanks;)

juan ruiz 09-24-2002 11:10 AM

Merv yes is Gravity that will drain the oil

WydRyd 09-24-2002 04:56 PM

Juan I agree with what you're saying. A TT conversion is quite costly due to the need for twin wastegates, twin turbo's, complex header design, relocation of oil tank, new intercooler design and associated plumbing etc etc... I'm sure you've made the right choice for your budget and can't wait to hear about the next dyno runs. Good luck mate!

juan ruiz 09-24-2002 05:56 PM

Looks like we are SET TO GO! Friday is the day we will take my car and my tuners 3.5 Turbo,Last friday we dyno a customers
3.4 Turbo she came up to 450RWHP but the Curve is FLAT! if we can get that from my set up we have reach a big time goal, for the FIRST Time ever my tuners is telling me "Now she will move!"
Can Wait !so today since Im on vacation I spend the whole DAY at the shop one 600hp out one 700hp in oh boy I can Wait!
COME ON FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYY:D :D :D :D :D :D

WydRyd 09-25-2002 03:32 PM

I BET you're hanging out Juan. I'm counting down the days:hours:min for you man! :D

BTW, I spoke to Todd @ Protomotive and he said that a T60-1 will fit on the side, but it's a TIGHT fit and may require modification of the J-Pipe, which is OK. To me, that's better than re-fabricating a whole new exhaust system AND associated intake pipes! OUCH!!!

I think you'll be seeing a bit more than 450RWHP

You have to give us the low-down on how the thing drives (e.g: torque, G's, spool-up etc

I'm getting a set of 930 P&C's from the U.S for $500 for my next upgrade. Can't wait till they arrive

juan ruiz 09-25-2002 04:00 PM

Merv,The turbo will fit with more cutting the problem that I see is ther Rubber elbow from the Turbo to the Air Cleaner on mine it was rubbing,Second problem will be when and if and you will have to install headers that will be another Pain in the *ss,maybe you have better results, another BIG PROBLEM is that the HEAT generated is difficult for the air to Breath with the SMALL air cleaner on that corner,at least those are SOME of the problems that we run into, maybe you have better luck

Today we fire the engine up and we took it for spin with the lastest modifications at this point we are Clueless of the HP last time she felt FAST(409 RWHP) Today, she feels even more fast still straight as an arrow, sounds better and the responce is even better BUT friday at 10.00AM the Dyno will tell us nothing but the True:cool: AGAIN!

We have 4 races line up already, she may not be the fastest thing on the road But no more wipping my *ss:D that Im sure of it.

Until thenSmileWavy http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/lol2.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/128.gif ;) :)

WydRyd 09-25-2002 04:10 PM

Juan, my air cleaner placement is different to yours. My air cleaner actually sits right behind (and slightly above) the intercooler core, so it's not getting any heat from the turbo. My air cleaner is also enclosed in a BMC Carbon Fibre enclosure for better heat resistance. Oh well, I'm sure we'll sort out the issues with the T60-1 (or possibly Garrett T04E) once we have it in hand and can assess the situation then. It won't happen for another 6-9 months anyway :(

The good thing is that I can get my HP "fix" from you and Mike as you reveal actual HP achievements with your respective projects.

Keep the HP-Junkies chapter alive boyz :D

( BTW, it's amazing you say the car feels even faster than before on 410RWHP  :D  )

kanihitit 09-25-2002 04:17 PM

Juan,

Im in Pembroke Pines...How about you?

juan ruiz 09-25-2002 04:36 PM

Thanks Merv,
I have to HONESTLY tell you that MANY times I feel to close the HP Chapter and move on, I see a LOT of People Read our HP Junkie staff but I can help to ask why don't they Participate?

I don't think that many of our Lookers realize the AGONY of this projects, and the willingness of some of us to share our ups and downs and our expirences that can save many $$$,don't get me wrong no complein, but if you see the PASSION that we encouter on the Tuners shop with all the projects and Hp,I know you are one of us, oh well not to worry we will try to keep it ALIVE;)

juan ruiz 09-25-2002 04:40 PM

kanihitit

e-mail juan_ruiz@attbi.com

WydRyd 09-25-2002 08:41 PM

Juan, just think, IF you did "close the chapter" and move on, you wouldn't have that unique, tarmac & lip ripping Carrera from HELL
