SC window problem: bent member
 

Recently the passenger (electric) window regulator was forced off track by a quick cup holder wedged in between the glass and door panel. Burnt the relay out it did...

After removing the interior panel I can see that the bottom bracket that holds/supports the glass is not only off track but is now bent severely and needs to be replaced.

Does the repair involve a replacement of the entire regulator assembly, including the motor? Any advice on the parts and removal/installation?

Motor is seperate from the regulator. Not sure how bad its bent but you should be able to bend it back into shape. Pull the regulator out, examine and bend back. Can't hurt it any worse right?

I think we are talking avout the same thing. My passenger side window glass sometimes falls out of that bit of metal and I just glue it back in with urathane glue - good stuff.

I would undo the (I think it's two) two nuts that holds this bit of metal to the rest of the assembly and get it out of the door then straighten it out. Then do the urathane glue thing.

When I put mine back in, I put the glass in the metal bit, attach it all - nuts & bolts etc, then check it's movement when going up and down the window track. When it's ok put lots of urathane glue in then leave it alone for 24 hours.

I don't think it needs replacing if you don't mind a little trial and error.

Sounds like I can remove the horizontal support bracket that the window rests in by removing two bolts on the regulator itself, still in the door. I'm assuming I'll be wedging the window so that it stays in full closed position, and that I can get at the bolts through the lower access part of the door.

While out I can try to bend or even fabricate an aluminum piece to bolt-in as a replacement.

Last, I reinstall and check for full range of movement, then glue the glass into a fixed position on the repaired/new support bracket. I was wondering if the glass actually needed to slide in the support as the window moves up/down.

Aww, man! Is that how it happens? 'Cause my passenger window is off track and yep, the girlfriend's cup holder is on that one. I was going to tackle it this weekend. I can hear the motor turning fine, but the window's off-track for certain. So, how long did getting in their take? The Bentley manual makes it seem lengthy, lots of steps.
