Safe removal of over spray paint on the paint tag

How should I remove the paint spray over the serial number paint tag. Taping it off, but using what chemical ? I believe my 1970 911T was originally Conda green! but now sprayed with India Red.

See photo.

well i picked at mine a bit and alot of the paint kinda just chipped off expecially on and around the rivets. then you can work it away from there. on another car the paint was just a dusting i rubbed at it with carb cleaner on a rag and got rid of it. the trick is to save the black on the tag without rubbing it clean down to the aluminum

Okay, so I decided to tape off the paint data plate and slowly remove the red paint. It was impossible to just remove the red and keep the black data plate paint, but I could see the stamped # code of 2626. My car is a 1970 and I see the code 2626 is for 1971 - I can only guess the Conda green is my car's original color.

Scott

Does anyone know where to get new rivets to put the paint tag back on?
