Targa rear window

I have to remove the rear window from my 1973 targa. I will be replacing the gasket with a new one. Does the Targa bar have to be removed to accomplish this and what else should I watch for to complete the removal and replacement? thamks for any help.

Yes you need to remove the bar and it is by far the worst chore to reinstall. I went through 2 glass guys and 5 tries myself before I found someone who did it, and he said it was the worst job he ever had.

avoid if possible and if not, find a few experienced friends or pros.

Funny, the guys that replaced my rear window after paint about 12 years ago, said mine was the worst they'd done in 20+ years of experience with Porsches.

Two other glass shops that supposedly had done them before gave up-each after several no-charge hours.
