Farewell To My Carrera
This afternoon I watched my Carrera drive away with its new owner at the wheel. I gotta' tell you, it was painful to see it go. It hurt my heart when, for the last time, I heard it fire up and then watched, and listened to, it disappear down the road. My pain is lessened by the purchase of a 2012 991 C2S. But as great as the new car is it lacks the character and charisma of the old ones--the look, feel, sound and smell. The 991 is a better car by a factor of, I don't know, four or five, but my '89 Carrera is a cooler car.
I will miss that car. I will miss how happy it made me feel every time I saw it in my garage. I'll miss all the sensations I experienced with each drive. I'll miss the utter satisfaction of owning a classic, air-cooled 911. But it was time, for a number of reasons, for me to move on. And my new (to me) Carrera S is sensational! It's been a pleasure to have discovered this great forum as a result of owning the car. It's the best forum I've been associated with. Thanks for all the help, wisdom and amazing skills that I've seen here. I'll pop in from time to to time. Best to all of you. ![]()

sorry you had to sell the '89, I totally understand the feeling. Hopefully the 991 will give you as much joy.

Ruwoodbury,
I hear you.....only I sold the 09 4S and kept the 87 when I left Alabama and came to NY for all the reasons you state....and the most important one? Because I was lucky enough to be able to.

Congrats and enjoy the 991 in the best of health!!!
I am somewhat in the same position as you as I've been contemplating selling my SC. If I decide to do so, I will put ear plugs in my ears and have my better half facilitate the deal. ![]()

Congrats on the 991 - looks awesome.
I completely agree about the older one being cooler. I just got back from a two week trip and the first set of keys I grabbed were for my 88. But as fun as it is, if I could only have one I have to admit I'd keep the 997. Have fun with the new machine.

Sad goodbyes
When I bought & picked up my 911, the PO's wife said goodbye to it, misted up, and started to cry a little (they had it for 15+ years) .
Then the PO started to sob a bit too. I knew then that I had bought the right car! I left quickly to make it easier on them. |
