Couple of questions relating to stock airbox installation
Today, I removed the OP's cone air filter and reinstalled the stock airbox.
(Anyone looking for a K&N cold air intake? It's got 2000 miles on it, at most) http://i57.tinypic.com/24c8t36.jpg Here are my questions: I installed the MAF and airbox bottom together. I then installed the airbox lid. That front lower clip was not easy to reach. I had to remove the oil filter and soap up my forearm! Is it ok to hand tighten the oil filter ? I had a good grip and leverage and gave it 1 good tug once it was sealed. http://i61.tinypic.com/2v9x43s.jpg Do people clean the MAF sensor? Mine is dirty but the car runs beautifully, so I didn't mess with it. http://i62.tinypic.com/2449obs.jpg What's the correct way to remove this clip? Using a pick tool, I ended up fully removing the entire paper clip part, but I have a feeling that's not the right way. It was also a bit tricky to get back on. I was afraid the spring loaded tension would launch the clip across the garage if it slipped. http://i62.tinypic.com/2m7j9e8.jpg The air hose that hooks into the airbox was tricky to reattach. The 2 large hoses that run across the back of the engine bay were right in the way. (What are they for, anyhow?) How do you guys thread that air hose around the 2 big hoses? I ended up doing the left, but it almost felt like the hose was about the kink since it had to point straight upwards. Thanks! |
Hand tightening the oil filter is fine, you don't want it wrenched on there.
On the electrical connector, pull up on the thin wire running across the top (about a 1/4 inch or so) and then pull the connector off. Many people have fits with the forward clip on the airbox, it's not a great place for it. |
In the photo, the wire is temporarily on the inside, but when fully connected, the wire is on the outside, wrapped around the bottom corners.
How are you able to lift the wire when it's fully wrapped around the corners? Lifting up would just snag the clip on the outer corner of the plug. http://i57.tinypic.com/4qpsty.jpg More importantly, how do you get the clip back on? |
Hook the spring wire where it ends on both sides, out around the outside of the connector so the entire wire sits flush all the way around.
Then just push it on the male connector, it will latch in place. To get it back off, pry the spring out on the sides with a small screwdriver or pick. |
Thanks Dennis.
I got the clip reattached. |
