B Post and whatever else lies in wait!!
 

I bought my first 911 (82 SC Targa) back in April and absolutely love it!!

I looked at quite a few and was looking for a project car. It will need at some point, the B posts attended to as there is evidence of blistering paint around the door striker plates and the base of the B post (i knew this when i bought it), but no evidence of filler type bodging.

Having rebuilt a very rough Triumph GT6 and MGB some years back (won't be doing that again) I fully understand that there will be many more horrors waiting once i start digging. This I fully accepted when i bought the car.

So, there are various and many posts on here but i just wondered if anyone has done this kind of work themselves at home?

If so, do you have any tips / advice?

Are there any how to guides?

I understand the need to measure, measure and measure again, maintain door gaps and brace the body in more than 1 direction (I'm not too sure how strong/rigid the Targa is once you start cutting).

Any advice, tips photos would be greatly appreciated.

No rush, it's a winter job as I just want to drive the car for now..........The car is all one colour!! It's just my crappy camera phone.

I'm not clued up on where to jack so likewise interested to see how you go about this. One thing - if you feel you have a rear sill issue don't jack the car in the factory jack posts which come out the sill. They ll give up on you. If you aren't going to tackle it soon I'd personally recommend washing the whole area with Fertan then a treatment like Dinitrol to slow the rusting. Just my view. Lots have tackled this.

You ll find posts on the welding and cutting involved....kidneys probably need done too. If you reach in behind b pillar - or better yet take rear wheels off the support car and look in behind b pillar. Clean it out and you'll get an idea of what you have and feel the kidneys too

OK.......the time has come. The car has been SORN'd (off road for winter) and it's time to tackle the rusty B posts (and anything else i find - surely there won't be any other rust - ahem!!)

I've had the car 7 months and thoroughly enjoyed it - it has never missed a beat.

I bought it knowing the B's needed doing at some point and now feel the need to weld something!
