911/912E Tie rod boots
Hi,
I think I have turbo tie rods on my 912E ( please check on pics ) and both boots are broken. I need some answers: - does non turbo boot fit ? I cant find turbo boots sold separately just the turbo tie rod set here at Pelicans store. - can I reuse old boot springs and what else do I need ? - is it possible to change the boot just by separating tie rod end or do I have to take down complete rod ? - how dangerous is to leave it as is since its not power steering rack ? Thanks for your answers ![]() ![]()

Turbo and non-turbo boots are not compatible. Pelican sells the turbo boots for $12 each.

Did you install the Turbo Tie Rods yourself? If not, read the installation instructions here:
Pelican Technical Article: Installing the Turbo Tie Rod Kit - 911 (1965-89) - 930 Turbo (1975-89) I would re-use the clips if they are not too corroded. To change a rubber boot, one end of the tie rod must be removed. If you need new tie rod ends, that may be the end you want to loosen.

Those are turbo tie rods. I just installed them on my rebuilt steering rack.
You will need to split the tie rod at the adjuster to get the new boot on. You can reuse the springs as long as they are not all bent up. It is not good to leave them this way since dirt can get into the rack. I would already be concerned about this if I was you. Rebuilding the rack is pretty easy. I was amazed at how dry mine was when I pulled it apart.

Thanks guys , thanks Doug ,
But then again I reckon it's easier to remove the whole rod instead of just the end isn't it ? And no need for toe alignment later after. |
