Hi,
I am looking for help. I have a 911 engine believed to be a 2.4l but I cannot confirm this nor am I able to locate any specs on this motor at all. I also do not know if it is a "T", "E" or an "S". I am looking to rebuild this engine but until I know exactly what I have, I cannot go further. If anyone can help me to locate all the details of this engine including specs, HP, Torque, Year and more, I would be so greatly grateful. Another question is whether it is possible and recommended to use 2.2l heads on a 2.4l to increase compression, torque and HP? Thank you |

I believe that is a '77 2.7l. Look at the casting number on the case halves. Should end in 7R.

Hi Matt,
thanks for your reply. I had been assured that it was a 2.4l. The unit is not with me but many hours away. I will see if there is anyone who can check the halves for me. Where is the code I am looking for? The engine case has been split open. I was seriously hoping for anything but the 2.7l due to the head bolts pulling away from the casing. I believe every 2.7l had that exact problem. Can I use the 2.7 crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, cylinders and heads on the 2.2l case? Can I also use the 2.2l zenith carbs on the 2.7l heads? Thanks |

Hi,
is there a site I can go to that will confirm this serial number and the specs of this motor? Are there other indicators of my long block that discerns a 2.4l from a 2.7 litre? Thank you |

Every mag case engine is known for the head stud issue. The 7R case is actually the most desirable of all the mag cases. This is better for you, not worse.
I just double checked the Redbook because my first post was from memory. 1977 US model 911s 2.7l. |

The first letter is for 6 cylinders, second number is for T, E, or S, and the third number is year. You have a 6 cylinder, S, 1977 engine, which is a 2.7 liter.
The 7R case was the strongest of the magnesium cases, but suffered pulled head studs and possible warp of the case from the heat needed to pass emmissions in the mid year cars. When the case is split, many need machine work and a line bore.

I would line bore, shuffle pin, and time cert any mag case engine I was rebuilding. But maybe that's just me.
