High oil pressure after changing oil tank

Hi, i have a 71 targa with a 2,7 engine. My original oil tank was broken and i got a oil tank from a 76 SC. I put the new tank in and now my oil pressure is much higher. At idle it shows 2 bar, at 2500 rom it shows 5 bar, at 3000 rpm it shows 6-6,5 bar. This is at normal temperature. When its cold it reads almost 8 bar at 2500 rpm.
I have checked with a mechanical oil pressure gauge and it reads the same. Pulled the oil pressure switch and put a small rod down the hole and i can move the oil pressure relief valve .
What is wrong

Michael

oil pressure is still too hi. i would question the sending unit being compatible with the gauge.

even idle pressure is realistically too hi. the 77 did have a higher pressure pump from the early cars but 2bar (29psi) is not realistic....if your idle is 900-950. mine was betwen 15 and 20 psi at idle.

you may have a blockage in the oil path

Interesting. Is it possible your original tank had a blockage? Why did you replace it? Oil tanks usually don't "break."

Tested with a mechanical oil pressure gauge and it reads the same as the gauge in the car

you may have something from the old tank clogging an oil passage in the engine.

a sticking pressure relief would only allow pressure to build past the relief point, not increase pressure at say idle. you could also have a relief problem if your pressure is going as hi as you say it is. i know on my 77 when it was cold in the winter my pressure could go above 100psi. i drove it very easy to keep it below that until warm. did nto want to blow oil cooler.
