Bizarre story 1965 300760 found!!
Well I had an eventful day yesterday. I had been tying to purchase factory 935 body work for sometime. The chance arose last week when I found a gentleman selling an "old race car" As I gathered more details I found out the he had an old 911 that
had body parts donated from Ludwig Heimrath. The key parts where or so I thought 935 front end and an Original IROC spoiler. On top of that the car had RSR suspension. With this information I made the purchase over the phone. I set out the next day for a round trip 12hr drive to gather my parts and car. Always a longwinded day as I was traveling alone and as you know at times you question "why am I doing this??" When I arrived at my destination I was a little confused as parts where strewn all over the garage some on the car etc. My first job was to identify the car and see what was meant by old Porsche etc. The front end 935 body work was removed and the rear poorly fit 934 rear panels remained, It hurt my eyes to look at the rear body work! To my surprise the chassis vin tag read 300760!! I then went to the trunk stamp and found 3007 all very faint under a think layer of white poorly laid paint. "This is an old 911"! The last two digits on the chassis where covered/removed by the fuel cell. Being a race car most of it's life the chassis was in very good shape rust free etc. It had many typical race modifications to the tub.ie fuel door welded , extra bracing and strut tower changes. All well done and more importantly rust free. The car itself had not moved since 2005 when it's donor 2.4 was removed. Under a layer of dirt and dust I kept digging. In the parts piled in his dirt drive way I found the original steering rack, air box etc. Sitting in the back of the garage was the original 901 transmission. He said "you can have that old thing if you want" "Pops out of 2nd" After that the parts we talked most about where the race purpose parts, suspension 930 oil cooler 16x13 wheels with 1980's rubber on them! A new Sachs 901 race clutch.....I filled the trailer (24ft) with the car and parts. On top of that it is good I traveled alone as my SUV was filled leaving only a spot for me. I am curious what a 65/66 chassis is worth in race prepped condition? Keep in mind it needs skilled work to bring it back to street quality. The funny thing is I was going there for parts but came away with solid chassis. I needed/ wanted the parts, I am not sure I need the chassis. From what I can gather it is a mid to late 1965 build. Pictures coming soon once I sleep and dig things out of my trailer. Cheers John

Very interesting John. It is difficult to determine value until it is stripped down, and an evaluation of what is required can be made. Strange what finds can be found in our north country. That is the third in a small VIN range located in Canada; I'd bet there were more. The Kardex might be revealing.
What info can you find on the transmission please. Dave

Thanks Tom this one was about as fun a find you can have.
In regards to the transmission I am not sure it is matching as the dust has settled I noticed it is stamped 8/66 and is a 902/1 which is a match for 66 not a mid 65 build. More digging will pull that info up.

I went to see this car a week and a half ago. Marc (previous owner is a great guy). An instructor with the Porsche club up here for years. Iroc tail didn't look original. Lots of nice race parts though. Chassis will probably always be a race chassis. The modifications were way to extensive to ever get it on the road. This car took part in the Targa Newfoundland almost 10 years ago. As such, I would get that chassis on a rack to try to straighten her up. Targa Newfoundland will rattle and twist any car out.
I'm also not sure why you were surprised with the chassis. He had it advertised as a 1966 911 Porsche racing car for awhile. He had it up all last year as well. Last edited by poorsche; 05-13-2014 at 07:44 AM.. |

Are the control arms lengthened? I could see them needing to move the mounts there if they had long arms and needed zero camber for bias ply slicks..

It looks like the arms are lengthen a couple inches. Seems like a drastic steep for minimal gain.
