Another Targa interior light question.

Car: 78 911 SC
Problem: glovebox light not functioning when doors open

Glovebox light DOES work when the black switch is thrown to the "on" position. When wires are switched, light works. Seems as if the brown wire with grey dashes is dead.
Targa bar interior light functions when rocked to the "on" position or the door activated position.
Trunk/hood light works as well as the clock.

Could the glovebox activation be on the same circut as a buzzer alarm? I've read about some type of buzzer that fires off when the key is in the ignition. If so, then the PO may have removed it because there is nothing when the key is inserted. Just an idea so I thought I would throw it out there.

Thoughts????

In my research, it appears the light us controlled via the switch on the glove box, which I failed to notice before. Will look at the switch connections, since one may be off. Will require me to squirrel myself under and into the trunk area. Unless someone has a better access area for me to try.

Bugstrider, the light above the glove box does not work as a courtesy light. It is only operated by the switch so your seat mate can read maps.

Thanks CPA,

My light works if I throw the switch to the "ON" position, however it doesn't turn on when I open the glove box which leads me to believe that the switch if faulty or not grounding. Do you have an idea how the best way to access the switch so I can check the connections? Is it going to be easier to access through the trunk or under the dash?

Cheers

Bugstrider, It is not a glove box lamp either, just a lamp for your passenger. There is no ground switch for it on the glove box door. You can remove it by gently prying it out of the recess it is in. All you will find is that the manual switch is the only ground for it. If you must make it a glove box lamp you will have to add a ground wire and switch to the door. It will be a simple addition. Do you really keep items in the box that you will need to find in the dark?

Another Targa interior light question.

Ok,
I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions on this, but if there is only an on & off toggle, why would there be so many Leads and what would the push switch be located behind the glovebox door? I understand the concept of the map light but I'm just tryin to understand the schematic. My overhead three way interior light has the same number of leads as well as the three way switch on the map light. These are the reason for my confusion and questions.

Overhead interior light and connections. One power lead and two grounds. One each for 100% on or only on while door is open.

Glovebox light and connections. Also one power lead and two ground leads. One for 100% on, the other for???(glovebox door switch possibly) if not, what would it be for since the switch is also a three way?

Glovebox push switch behind door

Thanks for your patients,
Trevor

Replace the switch. I had the same issue after thoroughly cleaning the light itself. The switch is carried by our host and is very easy to install. Lead position on the light just determines always off, always on or only on when glovebox is open

^^^^ This is wrong...

Thes things operate somewhat like the interior lights. The pushbutton switch grounds the light when it's in a certain position, much like the door switches ground the interior lights. Just check for a ground at the light when you operate the switch. If you don't have a good ground, remove the switch and clean it, before you buy a new one. These things are dead simple and can usually be fixed. There's not much that can go wrong with them.

Just for clarification:

Replace which switch? Glovebox push button switch vs actual glovebox light three way switch unit.

The little push button switch. Not the light. I pulled mine cleaned it thoroughly and still wouldn't work correctly. New switch and the lamp works correctly

Another Targa interior light question.

Ok,

I know this is trivial but hey, it's a small victory for me.

Got into the dash area and pulled the small push button switch. As you can see, it is crusty...

Used my trusty Dremel and went to town on the button switch, light connection, wire ends, basically anything that was brass. I was in full "while I'm there....mode"

Question------
This fell out of the targa bar when I pulled the interior light. Any idea what it is for??

Anyway, cleaned things up, repaired a broken plastic tab on the overhead light and reassembled.

WOW! What a difference... I have interior light and it doesn't look like an opium den anymore. And I haven't even put LEDs in yet.
