Part ID please
Hi i just pulled this out of my 911
Anyone know what it does there is no serial# on it and the sticker has worn away, it had wired plugs in it at either end one is a 16pin female socket , one is a round what looks like a famale coaxial port, and one has what looks like a phone plugi found it behind the passenger footwell on the LEFT side with corresponding leads going into it except for the phone looking plug (i drive a rhd) I have a hunch it has something to do with tuning,? but not a factory installed item is this right? is it one of those needed aftermarket upgrades like chain tensioners?? It is about 12 inches long and probably around 5 inches wide Rob Heres some pics of the part in question:p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403823232.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403823367.jpg |
Looks like an alarm piece or an old cell phone module.

" is it one of those needed aftermarket upgrades like chain tensioners??" Well the mistakenly named "chain tensioner upgrade" is neither necessary nor an upgrade, so the question isn't really valid. As for the device pictured, it looks like a piece of audio or telephonic equipment. The co-ax plug gives it away, as does what appears to be a phone or handset jack.

Im pulling all sorts of old electrics out of from under the dash from previous owners,
Already found a second cd player and stacker control box that was tangled in the wiring lol Ill take this one apart thanks for your replies Rob |
Glad you're having fun there Rob....I once ripped out 4 different alarm systems in the same car!
I guess the PO (more than one?) just kept adding stuff without removing anything. The car had plugs wired in for (guessing here) stereo, CB, maybe a radar detector, and several plugs and wiring of undetermined origion. It still amazes me as to what the owner of a car will think he is an "expert" at. The best of all finds is the "ladder" .... this is a power wire from several fuses (or not) that form a ladder under the dash. Bob |
