Transmission Mount Plate

I never realized it before, but a recent thread showed a plate between the transmission and the mount. I have not had a plate there since I started working on my car so it seems some previous mechanic left it off when he dropped the engine and transmission. Probably when I had my worn 5th gear changed out many years back.

Does anyone have an idea if this would cause any issues by not having it installed?

Would anyone have a picture of the plate so I can get an idea of what it looks like? It seems cheap enough if still available from Porsche, Pelican lists it at $9.50.

If memory serves me correctly (big ?? at this stage of my life) this is simply a thin piece of sheet metal.
Not sure why it is there.
Perhaps to prevent the tranny case from rubbing on the mount or maybe to provide a buffer between 2 different materials.
I am sure someone will chime in with a more technical explanation

PET Tells me at least for the SC years that was a turbo part. Maybe meant to provide a little more strength.

From what I can find in the PET, from '68 to '71 it was a die cast 2 part, and later just listed as a single plate '72 till '77. With the SC's and later it was just used on the Turbos.

Micrometer indicates 3.36mm, but I had my plate powder coated, so I suspect it is a 3mm plate.

Thanks for the measurement. I think I will call the Dealership parts department Monday and see about availability. I figure they put it there for a reason.

You might be better off calling a boneyard. DC Automotive on the East Coast, Parts Heaven or EASY on the West Coast.

I have that plate on my 73.5 Targa project. I can confirm it is 3mm thick. My plate is quite filthy at the moment but I'll clean it up before installing.

I'm installing the engine/transmission this week (first time its been in the car since 1990) and will have to remember to install this plate. It looks like an easy part to miss or get thrown away during a restoration.

I checked DC. They also have to order it from Porsche, so to skip middle man I go straight to the dealership.

there's nothing fancy about this plate . It looks like 8mm holes on 3mm aluminum sheet. Make it for 50 cents.
