damn door jam

Hey Guys
I went to open the driver's door on my '70 T this morning and heard the dreaded metallic cracking of the door jam ... then theres a thud and one half of the fixing plate fell off ! I know this can be a real headache to fix so thought I'd ask ... How the hell do I get the half plate back on ? From what I've read its not a good idea to weld the 2 halves back together down the split as the door jam mechanism wont fit right after.
I thinking of spot welding the broken off half back in place and using the reinforcement kit sold by our host to sandwich the split in the middle, is this the right course of action ? any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem.
The reinforcement kit will not do the job.

It has to be welded properly.

On mine I tried the kit and it was a waste of time after the piece had cracked. I should have installed it before it cracked. Luckily I fought it before I went to paint.

Hi Wayner
Thanks for the reply
Did you weld it yourself ? If so how did you find welding in that small space ? I was thinking to enlarge the speaker cut out to get more access...

That's only getting fixed one way " if your not a good welder
Just hire someone who is. Rip he door off and loosen the fender
And have at it.

Repairs like that always come back if you take any shortcuts.
