LOL, I just wonder if Pelican would like to be my exclusive retailer. ;)

On a serious note, I came up with this idea mainly for myself and figured if anyone asked I'd make them one for a small fee, you know little guy helping little guy. Anyway I've found a chassis dyno in my area and plan to do a comparision test of these two systems if the numbers are as good as the sound I'll start filling requests but not without our hosts approval or involvement since I feel it would be wrong to "advertise" a product that competes with what they sell on a BBS they pay to maintain. Wayne you interested?

(Thanks to Randy Wells....a guy who knows his stuff).

Interesting design but with those sharp 90 degree turns I wonder what the power potential is?

Didn't I say it was a "secret weapon"?
Now just go away and forget I even mentioned it, ok?
;)

HEY! I'm defending your honor against the Carrera guys and the only SC part I have is my long block! Do you guys treat all you're secret agents this way LOL ;) Can I change my title to "SCWDP (in disguise)"?

OK Doug...I'll bite.
Just what is that beast in the pic?
Is it my eyes..or do I see 2 into 1 into 2 pipes?
Must be one heck of a cross-over type system.

Doug, looks very similar the Triad muffler I'm running on my 914. I know they made them for 911 too. Is that what this is? Some guys in the PNWPCA region were running the system on their 911s and it sounds wicked.

PS - love the Triad on the 914, picked up a bunch of mid-range w/o a noticable loss on the top or bottom end.

Here's a few pics of the system mounted, I haven't gotten a good shot from behind yet since I'm terrible with a digital camera. here's looking in from the driver's side.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/mounted.JPG here's a close up of the crossoverhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/crossover.JPG

I made this prototype with regular steel after dyno testing I plan to make another that fits a little better out of stainless. So far it's much quieter than the Flowmaster with definately more midrange.

Christian,

That exhaust looks even better mounted! I cant wait to see your dyno results. I was wondering what the exit tips look like on the car? Have any more images?

Thanks!

I'm trying to get some pics of the exhaust from behind so you guys can see but I'm having trouble with the white paint on my car messing with the exposure on my digi-cam, all you can see in the pics so far is the body because the pics are too dark. I got some tips from others on how to take better pictures that I'm gonna try tomorrow. Since this is only my prototype they're just cheap chrome tips welded straight onto the mufflers, no down turns just straight side exit.

Are we witnessing the birth of a better mousetrap? Strong competition for B&B? Sure look like the potential is there. Hot rodders have known the benefits of crossovers and X pipes for years. My applause!

A Quiet Boom 09-28-2002 09:56 AM

Hmmm, seems I may have been beat to the punch on the x pipe idea on a 911, http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...monza_pic1.JPG

Available from Pelican no less!, major difference here of course being the fact that I'm using 2.5 inch pipe and on my final design a true performance muffler. I've selected four candidates for mufflers all with excellent flow ratings so it's going to come down to sound quality. Can anyone confirm that the Manta exhaust has a true X pipe crossover configuration? Or are the pipes just really close together? I noticed the Manta has three bolt flanges with smaller mufflers on their side, could this actually be a pic of a 912 exhaust and not the 911 version? I doubt there's room for the mufflers on their side on a 911 unless they're very narrow.

On another note, I can't wait for a chance at the chassis dyno! This prototype definately has more midrange than the Flowmaster I had on the car, I took the exhaust off this morning for some minor tweaking of the fit and decided to pop the flowmaster back on for comparision, it just doesn't have the midrange pull of the X-pipe. :)

Well after careful consideration and looking at that Manta, I've determined I have a better design, at least for larger engines. Notice the Manta uses smaller pipes and has funny hook ups for the tailpipes so I'll custom fab these on an individual basis. I enjoy welding and fabricating so I'll price them very affordably. If there is enough demand I'd like to sell them through Pelican so they can make a few bucks as well as handle the ordering process for me, otherwise I'll just make them by request, prepaid. I've been driving it for about a week now and "seat of the pants" with new carb jetting tells me it's more powerful from 3k up as well as a better sound than the 2in/out flowmaster I had on the car. Late this month I'm hoping to be on a chassis dyno with both systems for comparison. Direct inquiries to rsr911@neo.rr.com

Wow!

I installed Walker Dynomax Welded UltraFlo mufflers tonight, now this is the sound I wanted! Nice low rumble down low and pure Porsche flat six sound all the way to the redline. Mucho better than the Flowmaster I had or the cheapie turbo mufflers I first had on the X-pipe. Thanks for the suggestion Warren (Early S Man)! Sweet sounds, I need to record it. :)

Hi.
Very old thread this, but did you ever get to test the system on the dyno?

Cheers
Eskild
