Dang door stay pin! Not easy but I did it!
OK, I've read every post on the topic that my search efforts turned up... tried them all. The pins haven't budged one molecule!
The roll pin in my '87 apparently only "grabs" the door stay arm and not the upper and lower hinge nubs. I've determined this in that I can "tap" the pins upward or downward and the pin moves with the arm as the arm moves within the space between the two hinge nubs... this tells me that the bind is not with the nubs. This is driving me nutz... any new solutions? Thanks, Rob (just about to give up all hope) in Texas

Removing and replacing everything there including upgrading the stay reinforcement is not all that expensive and may be considered preventive maintenance by some.
Old thread I was involved in: Door Stays - replace both like with headlights? Post some photos of the condition you have described, it may help.

Success... finally!
Well, I was finally able to get the suckers out! I went back to the "small socket and C-clamp" approach and tightened the bejeebers out of the C-clamp until the pin actually moved... encouraged, I pressed on. Then I took a short square drive bit and used it as a punch to hammer downward... what I learned mostly in this process is to hit it harder!
Once the pins were out, I put in an extra hood shock pin & clip that I had on hand on each door stay... fits perfectly, and next week, when I start on the insides, these hood shock pins will come right out.

Didn't seem to be. Clearly, the roll pins were tight on the door stay 'arms' and not the hinge nubs. I'm convinced that I was just not using enough "persuasion!" After I overcame my shyness and whacked the things good, they came on out... grudgingly, perhaps, but out just the same.
I really like the hood strut pins as door stay pins! Thanks for your comments! Rob Out with the old (pain in the neck)... ![]() In with the new (easily removable)... ![]()
