Interior Light Delay?
Anyone know of a source, other than Performance Products ($30), for the interior light delay switch? It's the electronics that provides ~10 sec delay after shutting the door to turn the interior lights off. I have looked for months and have not found anything!
Thought I would check before I buy the item from Perf Products.

Vance,
Chrysler Corporation has been using a similar delay unit to illuminate the ignition switch on all of its' vehicles made since 1971! You might consider a 'boneyard' search ...

Was this an option? My 89 doesn't do this. It might be cool.
Anyplace I should look for a problem if it was standard? Thanks, Jared

Hi, Vance,
A local shop is selling interior light delay units at $6. 15 sec. delay. Not an original Porsche part, of course. This is in Oslo, Norway, however... If you are desperate, and cannot find one in the US, I could buy one here and send it to you. It's light and fits in a small envelope, so it will not cost much to ship by standard mail. You can just send me the money after you recieve the unit. Ove |

Do an internet search on IC delay and timer circuits. You can build one yourself for 50 cents with a few radio shack parts. A 555 IC and a pack of capacitors and resistors should get you there.

Now this makes me wonder... The PO of my car was not one to make changes or enhancements to the car. And my car ~87 has always done this. Just like, turning the ignition off and taking the key out and still able to roll (I say roll, but they're electric) the windows up. That is until my wife opens the door, and breaks the circuit. I don't know how many times I've asked her not to. I guess I just leave the key on until the window is all the way up.
So what you're saying is they don't all do that? ![]()

The power window trick is standard fare on the Carrera, not sure about the others. On mine, the after market keyless entry adds the interior light delay.

Ah! that's it. I was wondering if that was it. The first thing I did when I bought my car as got an alarm. And prior to that I don't remember the behavior of the interior lights.
So I don't have to wonder... about that anyway.

I know 85 and later SAAB 900s have a dome light delay relay added under the folding rear seat cushion. Its black, got three prongs, and I think is made by Bosch. Go to your local pick-a-part and pull one out, and grab the relay socket with the wires while you're at it.
