Porsche Crest MFIWDP -- propaganda!

For all my fellow MFI devotees, here are a couple of pics that'll make you smile.

Remember all you EFI freaks, MFI is why they made the movie "Le Mans"!

Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection has finished making my pump new again; this time next week it'll be sitting on top of my motor.

I can't wait!

Looks great, Matt!

What are those yellow markings? Are they "tamper seals" so that settings aren't changed or so that Gus knows that nobody's been pulling it apart?

You'll be making noise again soon and your neighbors will hate you for it!

They're actually torque marks...when we built prototypes of vehicles at Roush, we used to go through and mark all the bolts we'd tightened so there was no question later.

It shows professionalism IMO.

Good stuff Matt! You'll be proud to have that brick perched atop your motor again. Gotta ask: How much did Gus charge to work his magic?

Wow... that is one neat looking piece of machinery. Isn't that the same pump that was used by the Wright Bros? I seem to remember seeing an interesting show on the History channel about those things too .... I think the show was "Great disasters of the 20th Century", or something .......

Porsche Crest Luscious

Man, that looks good enough to eat off of. Somewhere in a box in my hangar, I have another one of those: a mechanical soul, looking for a GT-5 body to inhabit!

Hmm, nice to hear from our friends in SCWDP. Leland, are you proposing that the following cars were "disasters?"

906E
911R (with 916 engine)
Carrera RS
2.8 and 3.0 RSRs
934
935
917
956
962

Hmm, can anyone add to this list?

To paraphrase Darth Vader, "MFI is your father Leland!"

Dtw,

Gus charged me $1270 US. Not bad when you consider that converting to carbs would cost twice that, and EFI ... three times that!

Leland,

It's not too late for you!

What was the reason you had the pump re-done. Was it causing any specific problems or was it just due to age and use. Being a new MFI owner I am looking to find out all the quirks of the system. Thanks

Porsche Crest Note

Bill, I think it's important to mention that the string connecting the moth-eaten shirt to the boot in that diagram should be exactly 114.0mm +/- 0.2mm.

Cornpanzer,

Great username, btw!

Okay.

I had my pump rebuilt because the governor cam was worn (I had mild hesitation at 4-4,500rpm), and because something went wrong inside the pump just after my distributor was modified. I got a 20-minute preview of what my rebuilt engine was capable of before I was suddenly unable to rev past 5,000rpm, under load.

As far as I know, this is the first time the pump has been rebuilt after 250,000kms. My car has been raced most of its life.

Um, I don't believe any of these three used MFI. My understanding is that the 934 was required to keep the CIS fuel injection system of the 930. The 956 and 962 used a Motronic type engine management system with pulsed injection--probably TAG.

Even so, MFI is neat. It actually seems more refined to me than CIS which is kinda klunky what with metal plates going up and down and the like. LOL!

I knew there were more of us!!!

Poor Leland is just jealous there is a group of world dominators that predates his assention to power. Whats more he's not sure were ready to relinquish the POWER of MFI!!!!

Matt, that baby looks great!! You'll be so happy with a new pump on your new engine!!!!

Now since so many of you non belivers think those MFI systems are junk, just tell me where you live and I will be happy to recycle them for you at no cost or obligation to you!!!

I mean, come on, has anybody ever seen anyone put CIS on a new engine??? hehehe

No, I don't think 'ol Rube worked for the Germans. He designed automatic chokes for Chrysler.
