urgent help / at store / 1974 alternator
I have heard so many times that the 1974 alternator is a one year alternator.
I am not sure if this is true or not, but saturday I was on way to car show when my belt shredded, got cause in the fan, and stalled the alternator. cut belt off and started engine, thank god nothing happened to engine. HOWEVER, I got home, about 4 minute ride, put new belt on and the alternator is SCREAMING and making a crazy sound. I am assuming I destroyed the bearing in there. Im at a local autozone and they have a duralast in stock for 80$. I am wondering if I can pick this up to keep me on the road while I have the original rebuilt |

If their cross reference says if fits then it probably does. Make sure you still have the external voltage regulator (meaning your alternator is the original style that came with the car). If you have an internal regulator, those started in 1982.

+1 Easy to confirm visually. Not a whole lot of wiggle room in there.

yea, that was the first thing I checked, not a fan blade. I dropped by my local mechanic and he said deff destroyed the bearing in there. Sounds like a bunch of loose bearings in a coffee can. Unhook belt, silent as can be.
