I suppose it could be, but the tuning buttons are different on the CR-2001s I find on the internet... This one has electronic switches. Actually, I'm looking for a manual that explains how to program them. Holding them down doesn't seem to do it.

Ah, right...the presets... (good eye)

I was honing in on the Dolby button placement (2001 its down one position)

3001

Looks great btw. Cool OE porsche bezel on yours..

IIRC, you have to use the ME (Memory) Button first, then tap the preset you want to store that station.

ME button is on the left.

I remember the CR2001 and CR3001 very well. Those are the ones that people were stealing out of BMWs ("Break My Window") left and right in LA in the early 80s. Had 2 stolen from my cars.

The CR2001 came stock in the early 80s BMWs, once they were stolen they were replaced by the CR3001.

They were pretty poor radios, though! Not great sound at all. But very expensive. I recall the CR3001 was something like $600 in '82.

Does look "right" in a late 70s/early 80s 911 dash!

Yep, I think you nailed it! Thanks!

At one point, I did try upgrading to a CDR-220 (with a LCD backlighting mod), but the knobs across the top interfered with opening the cover for the CD slot. I didn't really want to change to later knobs, which are smaller.

So I decided to go back to the original. Actually, cassette tapes are kind of fun. I still have the cassette drawers (although to be honest, they are not in the car - they are pretty tacky.)

Philba,
with your permission I would like to post this pic in the for sale section.
I am looking for the outer trim piece and this is the best pic I have found.
Cheers,
Steve
