Question Front Seat Removal

We are attempting to install a new stereo into my 1980 Targa -- any tips as to how to get the front seat out most efficiently?

Many thanks,
TG

Four allen head bolts. With seat as high as possible, slide seat forward to remove rear bolts. then slide seat all the way back to remove the front ones. unplug electrical connection and it comes right out.

There are two 6mm hex bolts up front, and 4 in the rear (of each seat). As mentioned above, start at either end, and raise the seat to it's max height to gain easier access. Typically the bolts are REALLY on there, so if you attempt to use a standard "L-shape" allen wrench, you risk stripping the bolt heads. I would use a 3/8 ratchet with a special 6mm male socket and break each bolt free with smooth-but-firm torque. If you do end up stripping out a bolt head a little, don't panic. All, you need is a T-40 size Torx bit socket and it will come right out. The hex bolts are screwed into a metal receiver block underneath the seat frame rail, so you might want to place a finger in there once the bolts are very loose and about to come out so the block doesn't drop down into the frame rail. Also, when re-installing the seats, make sure that the mounting rails are lined up even, and that they are either all the way forward or all the way back.

On an SC I believe they just have 2 in front and 2 in back. The only allen bolts (socket-head) on mine are from the seat rail to the seat. I believe the allen's use to mount the seatrail toi the floor are are retrofitted by owners who didn't have the thin walled socket (1/4 drive 6-point) to get the standard bolts off the first time. Well there are other posts on this. Perhaps search.

Wink

Ahhhh yes, I was thinking `84 and up. Sorry for the confusion.

Island-

I thought all 911's had their seat rails welded to the floor pan? So the only bolts there should be are from the seat rail to the seat right?

So here ya go. . .
Rear of seat

Front of seat & the thin walled 10mm socket (1/4 drive 6-point) to get to it all.

Just a thought, are you going to fit the amplifier under the seat? Make sure you install the amp off the floor so that any moisture can't get into the unit.
