Hi,
This morning I was taking my car out to drive to work. Fortunately, I needed to stop and get some stuff out of my other car. When I came back, a fluid was dripping out of the rear quarter . When I smelled it, it was GASOLINE. ![]() Question: I will need to replace some of the fuel lines. Are the lines for my CIS system "premade" or are they simply high pressure tubing, cut to length and crimped onto the end fitting already in my car? Is this something I can do myself if I get a crimping tool at my friendly auto parts store? I figure I do not want to go the hose and worm clamp route as they do loosen and leak at higher pressures. TIA

As cheap as I am, I'd still say to either get the factory part, or take the old one to a hydraulic hose repair shop. But then I'm not familiar with your year's system.

Supe,
Thanks. I tend to prefer the right parts for critical applications but in the case of hoses, you can often make better ones your self because you can adjust the size to ease the routing. I went out and turned on the car without starting it figuring the pump will pressurize the lines and the leak would reappear. After runing for a few minutes, no leak. I hate to start the car but I guess that is my next step. I figure I need to look between the fuel pump and the hard return line (rememer it is a CIS) since the suction line qwould not be leaking when the pump is runing.

Heck, you might just find a fitting that is not tight enough. My fingers are crossed.

Supe,
Took some time this evening and when I wiggled a hose, the joint sprayed me. Looks like I need to replace a hose as one end has one of those (most likely) funky Porsche filttings. Tommorrow I will visit my friendly Porsche parts man and see if he has a factory replacement. If that fails I'll try the hydraulic hose repair shop route.

Well, Porsche wants $65 for the part and a 5-7 day wait. I went to a hydraulic shop and for $8.50 I'm good as new.

They replaced the rubber hose and the crimp. They reused my metal fitting.
They could have made a complete new hose but they part was not att hat shop. I did an autopsy of the old hose and while the outside looked ok, the inside was badly swollen and cracked. I understand that this is a common sympton of the effect of oxygenated fuels on some hoses.
