I have two friends that own Datsun Fairladys. One a 1600, the other a 2000 - around 1968 vintage. Not the Z the one before. I think they called the early Z's the Fairlady GT outside the US.

Anyhoo, the 2000 was called the Porsche Eater or something like that. It could beat the (non R) 911's on the track. I don't know what the level of racing it was. Maybe SCCA? Then what class? Don't know. Surely lower than the class in the video.

One of my pals told me (so the story goes) that an owner of a defeated Porsche would go to work Monday morning in his 911 and the Datsun would be having it's crankshaft replaced. The formula was there but the metallurgy was a few steps behind.

I do love that 2000.
