Installing Clutch - questions on condition of old
I'm installing a new clutch and I have a few questions regarding the condition of the old parts.
The clutch began to feel different as it had about 2" of pedal movement before enguaging. I believe I caused this condition because I had a nasty backfire during decal (exhaust leak) and to help reduce this, I feathered the clutch during downshifts. Now that I have it all apart, I just want some opinions on the pressure plate and flywheel - as well as the rear main seal. Pic!#1 Very oily behind the flywheel. Does this mean the rear main seal was leaking? Visually, it all looks fine except the leak, it could be coming from the Triangle of Death, is the top of the engine dry, especially near the breather, thermostat and low oil sensor? If so, then yes it could be the main seal or the guide tube seal, which is much easier. Browning of the flywheel could be oil leak related, I am surprised you are not getting a clutch slip with that much oil.
If I may suggest, clean and lube the T/O bearing/Guide Tube ( check for leak at the seal inside the tube ) and make sure the pilot bearing is rolling smoothly. The proper way to do this is to take measurements of the fly wheel and clutch disk. Yes, it could have been just a clutch cable adjustment you needed. How is the condition of the fork? |

You have to replace the flywheel bolts if you don't they will break.
