A/C Evap to Drier hose replacement?????

I needed to replace the Evaporator to Drier hose in my 80SC and I order the item from our host. The initial part called out
A/C Line - Evaporator to Receiver Drier
- 911, 911S, Carrera and 911SC (1974-83) Note: Only for cars with Factory A/C.
- Carrera (1984-89)
- 930 Turbo (1976-89)

When I received the part it came with "O" ring ends and not the flared fittings that match the factory A/C. Has anyone else had this issue? If you did how did you resolve it? replaced with correct fitting hose or added adapters from flare to "O" ring.
I have sent an inquiry to our host for a response but I am curious if anyone else has had this issue. Fortunately, I have time to resolve the issue since the car is not road worthy yet.

Targa..... chill.

Sometimes people order wrong parts, and sometimes people get wrong parts.
It's part of being human.

If your car is stock, having a flare fittings on the drier and the expansion valve inlet
you need hose pn 91157315202

If yo' car has o-ring fittings at both ends you need hose pn 91157315203

I would not suggest putting a flare adapter on an o-ring hose end because they
can tend to not seal well. However, putting an o-ring adapter on a flare hose end tends to work out quite well if necessary; say, if you have an o-ring drier or TEV or TXV (expansion valve).

PP recently overhauled their catalog system, there lots of part numbers and supercessions (replacement pn's) involved; hence 'stuff happens'.

You resolve the issue by picking up the phone and calling the PP customer service or parts department, 888-280-7799. But don't say anything like "Houston, we got a problem" cause they are in CA, and forget about "the eagle has landed", that was a different script.

Kuehl,

Thank you for the info, I did state that I have contacted Pelican about the wrong part being received and I am sure it will get resolved. Just to be clear, I have purchased parts from this site since the early 2000's and this is the first time I am having an issue. My thread to the forum was not meant to be a complaint about our host but more of an inquiry if this has happened to other users. I know, that when it comes to A/C issues there is a lot of info and some of the threads became personal between individuals and that is something I will certainly avoid.

A quick scan of the parts catalog states that for the P/N 91157315202 you recommended it states:

** USE 911-573-152-03-M260 INSTEAD ** Receiver Drier To Evaporator Hose, 911/911 Turbo/911SC (1974-83), Each Brand: X [More Info] Brand: Griffiths

Warning: this part may not fit your Porsche 911 (1974-1989).

911-573-152-02-M207
NLA

Part Number 91157315202 Superseded to 91157315203 (Click number for more info) [More Info]
Warning: this part may not fit your Porsche 911 (1974-1989).

As you can see, the part number ending in 202 is NLA and superseded by the 203 part number and as you stated earlier is for the "O" ring connectors and cost just over $300.00. The part I ordered based on the recommendation of the web site for my car was P/N 911-573-152-03-M260 and costs $40.00.

If I cannot get the correct hose for my application at a reasonable cost I may have to be aware of your warning, but go with an "O" ring to flare adapter if it exists.

Again, thank you for your response and any other tips are greatly appreciated.

If you can't find the correct hose, Rather than going with an adapter, how about having your local AC guy make up a hose with the correct fittings. I have had this done with complete success. Bought the parts on internet and took them to a local guy who had the correct crimping machine. He charged me exactly nothing to do the 5 minute job.

Well, that's the comedy of show, otherwise it would be boring.

NLA

That's a shopping cart website overhaul boo-boo; things happen when you re-catalog a database with thousand's of numbers.

Just give them a call and ask them to ship the -02 suffix

In total agreement here, and find it amazing how many overly sensitive "men" on this forum get so bent out of shape over message board comments (not referring to the OP or anyone specifically - generalizing, of course).

Ronnie's.930,
I can say that I am certainly not an overly sensitive guy when it comes to insensitive comments on this board. In many cases I find the banter very humorous. I just did not want to have it creep into a thread I posted looking for answers to a specific issue I was having with a part I procured from our host.

Kuehl,

Checked with Pelican Parts and the P/N 91157315202 is definitely NLA and I will have to go with an after market supplier.

kuehl 07-29-2014 03:40 PM

Oh.. now we are doing sensitivity training ?

Ronnie's.930 07-29-2014 04:05 PM

^^^ Yes, and I understand that Wild Man West is teaching the course - something about how Spal fans "might" help one keep a cool head!

Pat, understood and I didn't mean to imply that you were being overly sensitive here . . .

Bob, will you be guest lecturing at the aforementioned symposium?

Ha! Excellent way to illustrate a point, Eric - top notch work as always! :D

RSTarga 07-29-2014 06:07 PM

You should be able to find an a/c guy in Florida who can make up a hose with flare fittings. Don't forget to replace your receiver drier since the system has been opened.

Of course. How many have I missed? ZEE-ROH

I'll perform a meteorological function.

Kind of a slacker year, though. I will identify any geographic locations referenced where a 1.5 F drop in vent temps from spahl fans become meaningless simply with the push of this cool button. I'll be on that bad boy all day.

It just goes to show when you open a can of worms your bound to drop a few in the water for the hungry piranha. Well at least I have my answers to my questions and with that I say thanks to all who provided some meaningful input.SmileWavy

Bob, can I borrow the "easy button" when you're done with it (just thought of some additional applications it would be most suitable for)?!

Pat, thanks for the worms! :D
