H1 relay wiring diagram (highs on with lows)
I'm fixing to install some H1s in my '84, and as part of that I'd like to wire things up so that the lows stay on with the highs. I plan to build another one of these sandwiches, but with an additional relay:
Boggled by dead headlight I never found a diagram for this setup anywhere, so I figured I'd share the one I drew. The sneaky bit: The high relay triggers another relay which triggers the low relay. It's necessary to keep the circuits isolated so the highs don't also turn on with the lows. Corrections and simplifications welcome: ![]() This is a drawing of what the wiring is likely to look like physically. It's designed to handle a 130W high and 100W low, which is more than I'd actually put in the car. The wiring gauge is overkill, but...might as well:

You don't need an additional relay. Just a diode. Wire it so it supplies voltage to the low beam relay when the high is on.

Crap. Wish I'd thought of that...and had a diode.

Sandwich complete. Works a peach (well...with a 9v battery and a test light). I wound up using 12AWG in place of 14AWG 'cause I didn't have any.
![]() If only I knew how to get the actual headlights installed in the fiberglass "buckets"... |
