Custom 16" Fuchs to fit over 996 brakes?
Reposting from another thread - KTL mentioned the below about how 16" BBS wheels with "straight" barrels may possibly fit, unlike the tapered barrels of stock Fuchs (even 951s). Does anyone know if the custom wheel makers could make a Fuch look-alike with straight barrels?
"I know exactly what you mean about the wheel diameter choking down as it approaches the wheel center/face. I'm told that's because Fuchs maintain the same center section size for 15 in. and 16 in. wheels. So the larger 16 in. barrel has to taper down to meet the wheel center. You can run 16 in. wheels with the 996 brakes no problem if you use 3 piece wheels with "straight" barrels. My BBS RS 34 bolt 3 piece wheels had tons of clearance from the 993 calipers up front. I was even able to fit a BBS 1 piece wheel over the 993 brakes. I think the Fuchs are just a tight fit due to the taper we both recognize. Rears were a tight fit with regular 16x8 911 Fuchs. I had to run 14mm rear spacers to get clearance from the caliper to the wheel. My rear brakes were re-drilled 993 rear calipers and 930 rear rotors. Incidentally I could also run those 14mm rear spacers with the 16x9 BBS wheels I had, which were same ET+15mm as a 16x9 Fuchs. Just need to run a lot of negative camber."
