Ride height opinion.

My stock 87 Targa just does'nt look right. From the picture below, it looks like it's sitting too high off the wheels. I measured the ride height(floor to bottom of fender lip) and I'm at 26" on the front and 25 1/2" on the back. From the archives, these seem to be within spec, so is it just that the 15" rims don't fill up the wheel well enough and I need to got to 16's or 17's, or should I try to go lower?

I think you're about 1/2" too high. 25.5" and 25" Frt/Rr are the standard heights.
What size 15" tires are you running?

I believe those tire sizes give you the same rolling diameter as the other optional sizes 205/55R-16 front & 225/50R-16 rear, or even 225/50R-16 front and 245/45R-16 rear.
I wouldn't try and put a larger diameter tire on. I think if you lower it down a little you'll be happy.

I have an '87 and the PO lowered the front end by 2 inches. Looks great. Just be careful pulling into driveways with a large grade...guess that's what the license plate is for.

GSpreeman:

Wow, 2 inches! What are you measuring from the ground up now on the front and back?

I took the liberty of borrowing your car while you were gone, lowering it to a few different heights, taking some shots, and putting it back in your garage. Pretty good huh, betcha didn't even know your car was missing -

Then again, it would look pretty sweet with some 18s . . . . . . .

Steve,
Looks to me like you raised the earth forcing the tires, wheels and axels upward The shrubbery in the background is still the same. Ah, the God-like powers of Photoshop. Good job.

Timely post as I had the same question

Steve, that's awesome! Hopefully you put some gas in it while you were out, but how on earth did you find the spare key to the garage?

I'll take the 2nd car listed with the 18's. If you could put that car back in the garage, I'll be out between 10:00 and 11:30am.

Thanks in advance.

Here's what mine looks like with 205/55/16 and 225/50/16:

I think I'm a bit under 25" front and back (24.5" as I recall). Handles great, I just need to take steep bits and an angle.

Nostatic:

I'd say that looks about perfect. I am going to shoot for somewhere between 25-25.5 on front and 24.5-25 on the rears.
