Got my '83 SC home yesterday, into my garage up on ramps today...
It had a nasty noise the whole way home and when I test drove it. Isolated it down to a loose heat shield around the cat converter. Removed and better... There's a part that will never go back on the car. Driver's side door pannel storage bin was hanging loose and warped. Removed and put on the shelf to stay more than likely. Any way to brace the armrest without the bin? Not bad for my first night. 2 problems down, parts to spare. 3rd problem started with a funny story: Driving it home from the dealer's I couldn't get the heat to shut off! It was hot out but it was raining at home when I took off(couldn't pop the Targa thinking I would hit rain the moment I did). Thought I just had no clue with the controls and adjusted them the whole hour drive home. Today while on the ramp started looking at the heating system. Goofy control box was stuck closed (hot air headed to the cabin though the center defog levers were down). Major rust on those hogs. Closed it by hand and heat problem went away. Guess it is good to go for the winter, man was it putting out some heat. Tomorrow plan to look into hesitation problem 1000-2000 RPM. Searched archives, plan to take a good look at vaccum/distr. Those heater valves can do that. I had one stick on me in my SC, in 105 F. heat. Man was that hot

Just a word of caution, overheated Cats from running rich have caused grass fires and melted carpets.

Congrats on your purchase.
There are a bunch of us Pelicanheads up here in NoVa so hopefully sometime you'll be able to join us for one of our Fun Runs. BTW, the heat shield on my cat fell off last year and I never bothered to replace it.

I removed the heat sheild on my SC too. But I also removed the cat guts too. With the ceramic in place the cat will get very hot. Just think about that LR tire getting cooked a little after every drive.
