G50 and 915 Fluids
I live in Canada and cant regularly find fluids I want, so I order them ahead of time and periodically pick them up in the US and bring them back.
I ordered 8 quarts of Brad Penn Classic GL-4 80W-90 oil a long time ago... ![]() ![]() The label says "Contains no friction modifiers." I and am packing up to head back to Toronto today but I forget which car I intended this for. I ask because I also recall wanting to pick up some Delvac or Kendall too but I cant remember which car I already intended these 8 quarts for. In this thread: Matt listed Penn as one recommended for the track car so I think that's where I was going to put these, and that would mean I should head out to Napa some something for the 915's? These are the transmissions I have; 1 G50 track car with Guard LSD 1 915 autocross car with factory LSD 2 915 street cars with factory LSDs It would be great if someone would weigh in...the Penn in the G50 and Delvac or Kendall for the 915s with LSD? Thanks!

If you haven't bought the Delvac or Kendall - put the Penn in your 915 and pick up some Red Line for your G50. I've been running it for years and really like it. You want the regular 75W-90 for your slip box.

I would never run Redline with my LSD. I would never run Redline in anything but a babied street car.
You can run that oil you have there in a G50, but I prefer Delvac. |

Ps. "Regular" Redline MT 75w90 is GL4 not GL5 rated. If you run Redline is should be NS GL5 rated.

Thanks guys.
Can I run what I have here, the Brad Penn in the LSD 915's, presuming I can find Delvac for the G50?

BTW, I just noticed on the pic above, Penn's address is on "Kendall Avenue." Coincidence?

Brad Penn in Bradford Pennsylvania is the old Kendall Fields and refinery. The good fields that have the high ZDDP content. Kendall was bought by Conoco-Phillips and is produced in Texas now but they did not acquire the good field in the sell. Brad Penn did.

Matt - good feedback on the Redline. Never heard anything bad like that before.

What he said. Matt steered me to Delvac for my G50. Dropped my operating temps dramatically.

I'm not sure where you live in canada but if live close to toronto there's a place in Hamilton called crescent oil. That's where I bought Kendal for my 915 and works very good they probably have other name brands there and they ship
Their prices are really good |

I don't know why anyone would favor a GL-4 oil, when great GL-5 oils are readily available. The 40-year old "yellow metals" argument has been dead for decades, especially in a 915 that has none to speak of.
Redline finally came out and said that their MTL and MT-90 were unsuitable for hypoid R&Ps .. something we figured out the hard way long ago. |

I recently put Kendall in my 915 and it made a HUGE difference in shifting ease which seems consistent with everything I have read on here. I have run Redline in new model manual transmissions (VW/Audi) and have had good luck but from what I understand Swepco and Kendall are the only way to go in the 915.
