Updating SW Chip: Worth it?
I installed a pre-owned SW chip--91 octane, pre-muffler, sport muffler. I've since swapped the catalytic converter for an M&K pre-muffler and am running a stock Dansk muffler (60mm tip, non-sport). I can get 93 octane in my local area and where I drive.
Is it worth returning the chip to Steve for a 93 octane version? Would it be worth installing a sport muffler? If so, which is best with minimal other mods and expense? Which is it better to do first? Should I do both? Thanks, Dave |
If you did not purchase from him my understanding is that he will not update the chip unless you pay for a new one.

I would say no. I don't think the cost justifies the marginal return in performance.

i think i'd probably throw on a sport muffler of some kind (i'm running M&K) and call it a day. i have to think the difference between 91 and 93 octane settings are somewhat minimal. i have the SW chip you're considering - 93/pre-muffler/sport muffler - with that config.

I was wondering the same .
I bought the chip for a stock motor. Since then I have 964 cams, SSi's, m&k dual out muffler, and a cup airfilter cover. I think I want to upgrade the chip ( that i bought directly from him) |
slightly tangential, but if thinking of upgrading, wouldn't the best "bang" be achieved by having a chip configured from a dyno run's results -- this would best capture the specific engine's characteristics

Have you asked Steve?
|
I asked Steve this very question via email. He replied in detail that he will not reprogram for chip owners that did not originally buy the chip from him.
That said-I have a sw chip that I would like to trade for a milder version. My chip is a 24 pin version, for headers, sport exhaust, and 93 octane. I would like a stock/stock version for 91 octane. Anyone? |
The best thing about a SW chip is that he customizes it based on Air/Fuel ratio and then insures that there is no lean areas and you get the best results. If you are going to get a new chip you should get the best for the money and SW uses your dyno results to improve your performance.
I got a custom chip and it works great and I get good advice on performance improvements. I just added the custom chip for 93 oct gas and the bypass pipe and the car (86 Carrera) produces 210 wheel HP (I also replaced all tune-up items and the O2 sensor, spark plugs and wires and had the injectors cleaned by Marren). |
I recall a thread about a SW chip with multiple maps contained on it and switchable via a toggle switch. Is that available from anyone?
