Clutch Question - Must I Replace Pressure Plate

There was nothing wrong with my clutch. But, since I have the engine dropped, I decided to replace the clutch disk. I took the flywheel in today to get resurfaced and the shop told me that I have to replace the pressure plate. I had asked the shop if I needed to also resurface the pressure plate along with the flywheel.

My concern is that I am only doing this because it's a convenient time and a new aluminum pressure plate is very expensive. Is there a way to check the pressure plate. It's is currently smooth as glass.

I reused mine last time. Here's a nice video from Steve Weiner on the subject:

AFAIK - the fly wheel on a P car is not flat like on most .(concave ?)
I herd that somewhere so i never had mine "turned"
Next, no you do not need to replace the P plate if all is ok with it.
One other myth is you can not have the clutch disk it self rebuilt.
Not true, had Seattle brake and clutch do mine.
No problem ever.

911 PP's are pretty robust. So unless the "fingers" are broken, there are cracks, worn / scratched surface - it's probably all good to be reused. Did the shop give you a reason?

Thanks all!

The shop that told me I have to replace the pressure plate really had no reason other than "that's the typical way". They did not even look at the pressure plate and due to their lack of interest or desire to surface the pressure plate, I didn't ask any further questions. They are a machine shop and do know how to do the flywheel and so I left it at that.
