Pre-Purchase Inspection in the Boston Area and Option Codes

Hi all,

I'm looking at an 84 Carrera in the Boston/Cape Code area and need to find a good Porsche mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection on the car. Any recommendations? Please email me at devinbholmes@yahoo.com.

Also, I copied down the option codes from the car and there are 2 that I can't seem to find. They are D18 and D99. Perhaps I copied them down wrong but does anyone know what these are? I've tried several option decoders but they're not listed anywhere.

The car does has H1's and Euro tail lights that the owner claims came from the factory. Could the option codes refer to these two things?

thanks
Devin

H1s were illegal in the US in 1984 (probably still are). If it's a US model it would have come with sealed beams and 'sugar scoop' trim rings.

That's what I thought too

I'm convinced that one of the PO's put the H1's on as an upgrade but the current PO says they came from the factory. Whether they're legal or not, guess the inspection guys in Mass don't care since it's current. They are really really bright.

I would also recommend Rensport in Framingham.

H4s are illegal in MA. It depends on with inspection station you go to in order to get them passed. Some inspectors really think their job is important and will take pride in finding every flaw.

I second Rennsport in Framingham. Rene Prepretit, owner. EPE in Natick, Jerry Pellegrini, is also excellent.
