Post **HELP** Steering Wheel Removal

How do you get the horn pad off of the steering wheel in an '86 944 Turbo (No Aribag)??

I believe this is the same wheel in the early to mid 80s 911s.

Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are referring to the 4-spoke wheel, there are no screws or bolts, just plastic/metal tension fittings, so you should be able to pull it right off. Just grap each end and pull straight towards you. Or, sometimes pulling out on the bottom side with your fingers, while pushing forward on the top side with your thumbs (to effectively pry it off) works if it is really on there.

I just got finished installing a 930S on my 86 911. Man does it look nice.

Anyway, technique is as Eric describes. An additional tip: you will need to pull the horn pad harder than you think. While I was thinking that something was about to break, I pulled a little harder and it popped right off.
