Please explain this part
 

Is this stainless steel part an option? What years was it available? What is the function? Is it still available?

Just a fancy option to cover up the muffler. No other purpose than to beatify the rear. I do believe its stainless but not 100% sure.

It's not aftermarket. It's an actual Porsche option part for early cars.

Odd, it's not listed in the accessory pages of the PET.

Well, I've been known to be wrong, lol.

I was just at a respected Porsche shop and saw one on the owners T. He mentioned it was a rarer factory option just for beauty. So I am just posting what he said. I have absolutely no first hand knowledge and should have mentioned as much.
