Identify this brake related cable/hose ?

I had my rear driver's wheel off and noticed this.

That stubby tube that runs underneath abruptly ends.
It almost looks like a breather hose, the way it is just cut on one end.

What is that, and is it correct?

What do you think happened?

Why wouldn't PO re-install these correctly when he had the brakes replaced?
Is it a matter of skimping on buying new ones if the wear sensor was actually triggered?
If they were intact, it's just a matter of reconnecting them, right?

Could he have installed pads that do not have a wear sensor? Is this a possibility?

In the photo, are they just cut off ?
I'm now curious if all 4 wheels are like this.

Looks like the previous owner was a cheap ******* who simply cut the wire. Once they wear enough to turn the light one, they are finished and have to be replaced.

Ironically, he spent almost $10,000 on "upgrades"
(9" wheels, SSI exhaust, stereo, cone intake, strut bar, slotted brakes, etc)

Meanwhile, these are like $6/ea.

I just pop it out of that retaining clip, and unplug?

Do all brake pads accommodate the wear sensor?
Maybe the performance brakes didn't have the little notch?

I guess I'll check next time the car is up in the air.

Yes, it's as easy to change as you suggest. Stock pads would have the provision for the sensor, performance pads may not had had that. Good supposition... Still, had he changed the pads before the old sensors wore through...

Or, maybe that's the best way to keep crap out of the connector if you aren't going to use the sensors. I always check the pads periodically, so I've never seen the need for the sensors, anyway.

Mine have been disconnected for over ten years now. It started when I was going to the track and now I have never felt the need to put them back in.

Me too as it's so easy just to look and go "yup, got pads"

Let's face it, most guys that own these older cars do their maintenance and track inspections etc.
