Anyone store their 911 in a shed for the winter? Size recommendations?

I'm building a new shed in the back yard, and it occurred to me that if I build a big one, I could maybe get the 911 in there and free up a garage spot in the winter for the wife's car.

Anyone have any experience storing their 911 in a shed in the winter? Any recommendation on size? I'm looking at a 12'x20' model with an 8' wide roll up door. I'm thinking that will be big enough to get the 911 in there with a small ztr mower, snow blower and other random junk. I'm curious if anyone has any practical experience doing this though to see if I'm way off in my estimate of space requirement.

My biggest concern would be securing it from our rodent friends.

I store mine year round in a 10'x20' commercial storage unit with plenty of room for maintenance, engine drop and upgrades (currently installing a fender mounted Elephant Racing oil cooler).

A packet or two of D-Con should keep the rodents at bay as long as you don't have pets as the sick mice will wander out of the shed looking for water and the dogs will eat them, making them deadly sick.

wife's car eh?

I love the part about allowing your wife's car to park in the garage.
My mgmt would not allow hers to NOT be in the garage.
So the new Rubicon is out, but the Carrera stays in!!!

Glad to hear that! That's just barely smaller than what I'm looking at.

I'm concerned about the rodents as well. I have some pretty toxic rodent control measures that I have take in my garage that I plan to move to the shed.

That's not the worst part. I have a two car garage with a lift, so I have three of my cars in the garage and her's is still outside. I have a VERY understanding wife, and we just bought her a new car so she's happy. She knows how happy my hobby makes me, and she doesn't care about having her car in a garage. I do put one of my cars outside in the winter when we are expecting snow and put hers in the garage, so I'm not a total dick.

I store mine in a "tempo" 10x16 all year round, until I build a more suitable place that will be 12X18

What Stig said.
Mice are the enemy, and not one you want to go to war with.

Dryer sheets apparently deter the mice as well. I had our 380sl in a commercial storage unit all winter and spread out sheets all over the interior and exterior nooks and crannies of the car. Not one sign of mouse droppings in the Spring. Bonus is that the car smells like fresh laundry now. Haha

The ones that I use in my garage(and was convinced would never work) are these. You place them along the base of a wall and they just run in as they scurry down the wall. It doesn't matter if there are 3 dead mice in there already, they seemingly can't resist going on. Never used bait with it either. Seems idiotic, but so are mice so I guess it all works out. Added bonus is the lack of poison laying around.

My old garage was a glorified 10'x18' shed, with a garage door and ramp on one end.

Did all projects in there as well.

Went through all normal winterizing procedures, took gummy bears off, put on jack stands, and toss a dozen or so dryer sheets in all rodent welcoming holes.

You are not following proper ettiquette!

YOu are supposed to be keeping it in a barn, so one of us can discover it down the road and brag about the barn find!

Ha! I had that thought when I was dreaming the idea up. In all reality, it is a possibility. I'm sorry to say that the 911 has not gotten much attention since I had a kid 6 months ago. It sits up on the lift under cover for months at a time these days.

Also, I live in the city and a shed the size I'm thinking would be called a barn by most of my neighbors.

Unfortunately my lowly SC wouldn't be much of a find. You never know though...20 years from now maybe SC's will suddenly become scarce and collectible!
