911SC front ride height wont lower from 26"
 

I have the drivers side at 25.5" and the passengers side at 26.125" but i cant get it lower! turned the adjuster until it was no longer hitting the lever. took it for a 10mi aggressive ride and still doesn't go any lower. Torsion spring?:confused:

You will need to re-index the torsion bar cap

J, i was planning on taking out the spring but not sure how to index or do i just do it a notch at a time?

Pmac,

You need to raise the front passenger side off the ground to be able to remove and re-index the TB retaining cap. Before you you could remove the retaining cap, you need to pull out the torsion bar adjustment screw. Now the retaining cap is ready to be pulled out. Rotate or re-position the retaining cap clockwise. Install the TB adjustment screw back and re-check the ride height. Drive the car around the block to let it settle down and measure. HTH.

Tony, thanks for the reply and I see what needs to be done but i cant seem to get the cap off because it's still under tension even thought the wheel is off the ground and the adjuster is removed. Are there other fasteners that should be removed?

Once the car is jacked up, you should remove the adjusting screw from the torsion bar cap. This will give you the ability to remove the cap from the torsion bars. They do clamp on tight so it may take some muscle to get the thing off.

Now, if you think about it, the car is in it's highest position....(i.e., car way up in the air, wheels on or close to the ground). Therefore, if you wanted the car this way, the adjusting screw would be screwed all the way in to get the car to this position. So, when putting the torsion cap back on, you want to position it in a way that that adjusting screw would be fully screwed in.

Once you get the car back on the ground, you can now loosen the adjusting screw to lower the car to normal but you needed it to be at the max height to begin with (since that's how the car was sitting when it was on the jack stands). Now the adjusting screw has room to move. You originally had that adjusting screw too loose and when you put the car back on the ground, the screw had nowhere to move to (it was already there).

Vern, my problem is I have the adjuster out and the car jacked up to relieve the spring pressure and still cant get the cap off. I need a trick to pull it off its already soaked with PB....

Pmac,

There is nothing holding the torsion bar retaining cup except the adjustment screw/bolt. Make sure that the retaining cup is not touching the aluminum subframe and use a hammer to tap the corrosion or dirt keeping the stubborn cup from sliding out. Use some persuasion, pry bar, hammer or something to get the cup loose.

If all else fails, drill a small hole in the center and run a machine screw into it and pull it out. A dab of silicone to plug hole after reassembly.

I would try applying a little bit of heat. It's a difficult area to be playing with fire so why not try using a hair dryer (a heat gun would be even better). I have amazed myself many times when heating up a part causes easy removal or disassembly.

Tony, just like the original Jaws movie "you're gunna need a bigger boat" so i got a bigger hammer and got the cap off and re-indexed the cap and adjusted both sides to 25.5!
