That would go great with my purple neon license plate frame, chain link steering wheel, and pink fuzzy dice.

I like 'em.
Besides my '86 911, i own a '97 528i. The angel eyes weren't available then. Not sure i would like 'em on my 911, but would on my bimmer. How'd you get the angel eyes lights in different colors? Is it a photoshop trick or real ? Mike '86 coupe w/ stock H1's |

must say it is not for P-cars
but they come standard on the newer BMW's so hardly rice I've seen some crappy aftermarket kits equivilent to putting fake xenon bulbs in normal light fixture...I know you guys are out there...even on this board... I think they look great on bmw's nut would look wierd on a p-car... plus it would make bmw owners think we are biting their style... MJ |

I'd have to see them on a Porsche to make a judgement but I think they look pretty cool on BMW's. Just another fad.

Rice: I don't think so.

Not only that, if you've been in one of these cars, you know these new lights are not just for looks but are extremely funtional. What else would be expected from German engineering? Lastly, most German engineering is evolutionary, not revolutionary and the lights are no different. If you look at the older BMWs and have followed their development, you'll recognize they had a bright center surrounded by a dark ring (this was in the early 90's), unlike other headlights at the time where the entire light appeared to be the source. BMW has merely reversed this concept, taking advantage of technology that was not available then. Porsche should get off their butts and make a step change in the "me too" look on their front ends as well. Just my opinion. Last edited by autobonrun; 10-02-2002 at 04:40 AM.. |

To expand on Autobonrun's thought: We do need to be careful about calling anything non-Porsche "rice". Even Porsche now makes rice: evidence
Cayenne. That looks like a rice burning SUV if I've ever seen it. My advice: Do what you want with your car and nevermind what anyone else thinks if it makes you happy. Plus it gives the rest of us a great opportunity to be critical. I'm curious how the "not made here" attitude can be transmitted by the manufacturer to the customer so easily. It may be a virus in the leather of Porsche cars. I work for a multinational company that is dominated by Germans. If they didn't come up with the idea, it ain't worth a spit. Thanks for allowing my morning vent. I'll go back to my lousy job now. I'd rather be working on my project car.

Damn, something else to get now. Am still trying to fit the curb feelers I bought at Wal-Mart last week (I got the Gold Plated ones 'cause they look really fly). Also bought the plastic hub-caps with the cool squiggly-design (they save weight over the metal ones).

I like those headlights on BMWs. On other cars? NO! Having those on a Porsche would be like having Xenon look headlamps on a Honda Civic.

Defend BMW all you want, but one only needs to look at and sit in the new 745 to see that BMW is going off on an odd design tangent. I repeat with gusto:

I think the only 'upgrade' I would do for my lights would be to get a xenon HID kit. This would finally let my lights overtake a zippo lighter in the "lighten up the road stakes". The kit cost £600 though!

Well,
I tend to agree with your assessment, but ultimately, you want to buy, I'll be hapy to sell it to you ![]() I sincerely doubt that the people that created the curb feelers actually installed them on their cars ![]() On the other hand, some of you *might* have BMWs - you never know ![]() As for installs on E39s, nope, not a good idea, there are replacements with the Angels in them for $650 minimum and those are the only way to get an Angel set into the E39 ![]() |

Lothar, as much rice as the Cayenne might be it will still put a beat down on an SC, Carrera 3.2, etc. with ease (the turbo will at least). The car is damn ugly, but it's fast for an SUV......there's no doubting that.

Amir,
The world's fastest SUV is still an SUV. A Carrera, or better yet an SC, is an experience. If I were into drag racing I wouldn't own a 911. Anyone who's taken a 911 to a road course can attest to that. As for Cayenne, I think it's ricey because it resembles another SUV made in Korea. They do eat rice in Korea, yes? I'll be waiting to see the first Cayenne at a drivers education event, but I'm not holding my breath. If Cayenne makes a boatload of money for Porsche so they can go back to a factory racing program, I'll gladly eat my words with a fork. I just hope Porsche isn't too late for the SUV craze. I sincerely hope they are successful but I'm disappointed in all that performance wrapped in "me too" styling.
