cam cover leak questions
Right cam has a sizeable leak so I ordered a gasket set. Three hours to remove the glued together cover and gasket material. Got most of the gasket material off...is there a preferred way to do this?
I noticed an o-ring and black rubber spacer on the tensioner oil feed. I have a few more questions: 1. Am I to use some gasket adhesive on both sides of the cover gasket? 2. Should I replace the o-ring and black rubber spacer at this time? If so,where can these be obtained? I have a 1985 3.2 that I has 250,000 miles. Thanks, Mike |

I use a paint scraper and or the tungsten blade out of a planer, used with care you can avoid gouging the alloy and quickly deal to the gasket and sealant. I prefer the cam cover gaskets to go on dry, you can get them with a Teflon like layer that seals well.

Thank you pronouns, I have bought the gaskets from Pelican and ordered gasket remover spray. I found carb cleaner does a pretty good job.
For the o-ring I bought Viton 75 durometer -013 and -014 from Amazon. These are in 5 packs and are Amazon Prime for less than $1. |
