Spring plate bushing questions
 

I'm working on trial fitting my suspension goodies. Sure is nice to see stuff going back together again, all shiny and new. The front was a breeze. The rears are giving me questions though. Check out the pic below; I'm curious about the amount of bushing that's hanging out of the spring plate cover. Is this normal?? It was the Weltmeister bushing packaged as "outer spring plate bushing" so I assume I used the right one?? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Plate2.jpg

Here's another question: What the heck is this little poly ring for in this pic? It came with the inner bushing. It doesn't seem to fit anywhere:

Don't know where the poly ring goes either but the gap looks right from the cover plate to the arm. I had a similar gap with the neatrix setup.

I wouldn't sweat the gap. When you torque down the bolts that retain the cover plate, the bushings will find their place.

That ring thing is not part of the rear bushings. I have no idea what it is or why it is in the box.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was thinking perhaps I had the wrong bushes. Another thing I noticed was that the spring plate comes very close to the chassis when trial fitting- so much so that I worry about the bolt heads that will be on the finished assembly rubbing against the chassis. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

That ring is most likely a spacer, and is needed if indicated. I have fitted adjustable spring plates on 2 911's and have had to custom cut spacers to take out any of the gaps in the fitment of the spring plates. The problem, at least with adjustable plates is that when everthing is fitted and bolted up, there is still about an 5-7mm gap between the outer bushing and the outside of the springplate. This is bad for adjustable plates since the 2 units could possible walk away from each other during lateral stress, causing a failure that was noted in past posts. The failure was from improber fitment and not the plates them selves. Check and see if there are any gaps in your fitment with your set up. For one piece OE plates, failure will not happen, but unwanted side to side movement should still be stopped.

The spacer ring is for the inside bushing so that the inside spring plate does not rub on body. If you check your old stock inside bushing you will see a slight amount of the bushing that was not inside torsion bar tube.
