manual heater lever switch access?
My 82 911SC has red manual heater levers on the floor, next to parking brake. Pulling up the levers sometimes turns on the engine mounted heater blower fan - but sometimes doesn't! Relay at the rear checks out OK. Seems like the floor switch needs checking - but how do you find it?? Do I need to remove passenger seat? Or carpet? Or lever gaiter? Thanks.

You will find that switch just in front of the pair of levers, where the levers lift from the plate. When you pull up a lever (or both), the wire grounds and kicks the relay to your heater fan so it goes on "automatically."
Pull the carpet away and shine a bright light down there. Do not pull or force - the plastic is old and fragile. Finally have a good look at your heater fan and be sure it is in good working shape. The wires to mine were melted when I bought my car. Got it to work and put in a 15amp fuse, but I plan on backdating and removing all of it. |

I took out the seat and rubber gaiter, sure enough, switch just as you said! But it looked un-replaceable without removing parts of the handbrake and heater levers. Not even sure there is a replacement switch! So I just wired a slide switch in parallel, partly hidden next to passenger seat runner. Now I can force the fan to run regardless of heater lever positions. Cools the engine in summer, warms me in winter. Mission accomplished! |

I'm taking this old thread because apparently I have the same issue. I bought a replacement switch, but as the old one is loose I'm not figuring out how it should be fixed to the base. Maybe some of you can help me.... Thanks |

Heres the switch http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430061976.jpg The original one I found in my car was loose, so I bought a new one at Parkhaus1 Performance & Parts, don't recal exactly the cost but guess about 10/15 usd. P/N should be 911 613 525 00 The problem is that can't figure out how to fix, maybe i'll remove right seat to get better access... Would be great if you could show some picture! Thanks |

I took up the leather and rubber handbrake gaiters, but I still can't see much. I remember not being able to remove the switch also! So I just added a couple of brown wires in parallel with the yellow wires, and added a slide switch nearby. Looking at your new switch, it seems likely the old switch just gets pulled vertically out of place, and the new one is pressed down. The action of the levers seems to add more downward force, so it maybe a demolition job to remove the old one. If yours is loose, you may be lucky and just slide the new one down onto the little nub on the side of the handbrake. Unless that broke off with your old switch. Reviving this old thread. Just found out my heater blower motor won't shut off when pushing the levers down. had a look and my switch was old and broken. New switch on order. But can't seem to figure out how it re attaches.. anyone have a solution.. Thanks !

My 1988 has been lightweighted. To blow hot air into the car, you pull the levers up and drive in a spirited manner. I find it a pleasing system.
