Windshield wiper motor drive arm stripped

I have a 70 Targa and the windshield wiper motor drive arm is stripped of the knurling. The knurling is good on the motor. My only thought is to drill the arm and put in a set screw which would be a pain to do. I am supprised not to find this problem addressed on the forum as I bought a 74 setup complete {used} and it has the same problem.

They wear out especially if the owner has tried to clear heavy snow or ice from the windshield. The motor is very powerful and it will not stall but it will strip the splines (knurling) from the arm.

Buying a used one is a crap shoot. I would call Parts Heaven in Oakland, CA and ask if they have one that is like new, and if not I would order a new one from a dealer. Call mine, Isringhausen in Springfield, IL. Their parts guy is great!

I have one from my 75 donor I was keeping for a spare just in case but if you need it, let me know what it's worth to you and I'd probably sell it. I honestly only wanted the motor off of it since I figured that would go bad first. Maybe not huh?

I was so hoping for an easy fix but such is life, eh?
Cabmando, I want to check locally first and make sure the 70 and 74 interchange but I will get back to you in a couple of days.Thanks.
The wipers were iced to windshield, not obviously, and a couple of seconds and later gone working wipers.

Yes, it only takes on half second for the motor to turn when the arm is stuck to strip out those splines, most especially if the nut holding the motor shaft to the arm is a little too loose. I think all wiper mechanisms from 69 through 89 are interchangeable. (and maybe from 65 through 89).

And I still think the best source is Parts Heaven in Oakland.
